The concept for Scalextric Slot Cars took it’s origin from the Scalex scale models made by Minimodels Ltd, that first came in 1952. Their creator, Mr. B. “Freddie” Francis, first demonstrated them at the Harrogate Toy Fair in ’57 in the United Kingdom. During 1958, unable to keep up with demand from customers, the company was sold to Lines Bros Ltd, who changed the slot cars so they could be manufactured in plastic, that was less costly. The majority of Scalextric Slot Cars are made in 1:32 scale, which means the slot cars typically are about 6 inches each. In the later 1990s, Micro Scalextric was launched at a 1:64 scale.
