You gotta really like SUVs! They’re huge, roomy, and more importantly, a lot safer than regular cars. Though a few people may say that they’re just too big, uneconomical automobiles which guzzle precious fuel and make the planet uninhabitable, they just cannot deny that if they had to put their precious newborn children inside a car, would they pick a plastic box on wheels powered by a battery, or a big, heavy, but impenetrable SUV – I’m certain the decision would be the latter.
Arguments aside, let’s get on with what the best SUV 2012 is usually used for. For most part, I’ll function akin to a school bus with a lot of children involved, or, it may actually be used for what it was initially built for in the first place – spanning tough terrain and exploring those places which civilization hasn’t yet seen. No matter what the purpose, there is an SUV for you.
At the outset, it should be stated that the now that you can no longer buy a Hummer H1 Alpha, the best SUV by far, when considering luxury, functionality, reliability and capability is the Range Rover. Available with a mighty V8 gasoline engine (with or without a supercharger), you can’t go wrong with either one you opt for. The downside though, is the cost – over $80,000, with the top-end version crossing the $100,000 barrier!
If Land Rover’s flagship doesn’t interest you, there are two other amazing SUVs from their stable – the LR4 is one other well put together innovation and goes about it’s business in a no-nonsense fashion, with the build quality and capability of a battle tank. Moreover, at it’s cost, it does look like a great deal! Then there’s the Range Rover Sport, that is an effort to make the king of the jungle seem more civilized – like a lion actually wearing a crown, if you will.
Then theirs Toyota, with their famous Landcruiser. A huge, relaxing and very reliable gentle giant. It will obey your every command without any question, and will never turn it’s back on you. And it’s also armed with a gigantic V8 gasoline engine which would put out the fire in any more questions. Certainly, there’s an alternative choice to that too, within their stable – the Sequoia. It is a bit larger than the big LC (yes, surprising, don’t you think!) but just as capable as well as with a choice of two V8 gas engines at a good price, great value too.
Then certainly, you have the familiar names – the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Suburban, Ford Expedition. First of all, the Escalade. It is the pricier of the whole, but brings the most amount of traditional luxury with it. Very capable in either situation – on and off road, it makes a solid statement for itself. The Suburban is by far, the largest of the lot, with amazing room and good towing potential – it is a wise choice if you often travel with family and a lot else in tow.
The Expedition not just is the smallest in size, but also has the smallest engine of the lot – that is saying something since even considering that it is, it’s still a massive V8 after all. And it isn’t any less competent either. A test drive of each one should take care of all doubts and help with the comparison.
As always, before any buying decision, it’s best to take a look at all the options and consider which is the top SUV for you, rather than base your selection on what the one you’ve zeroed in on is capable of.
